Cross Bible Pendant
Is it wrong to profit off religion?
I see the trinkets of religions, such as crosses, Star of Davids, Buddhas...I see the Bibles being sold. I see jewelry with pendants of crucifixes and crosses. I see crucifixes being sold. Where do all the monies go? If they all go to the makers of those for personal gain, then is it that wrong?
Also Christmas items.
2 Corinthians 2:17 answers that question. Also, Jesus cleansed the temple of money changes who were profiting off the worship of God.
2 Corinthians 2:17 says:
"And who is adequately qualified for these things? for we are not peddlers of the word of God as many men are, but as out of sincerity, yes, as sent from God, under God’s view, in company with Christ, we are speaking."
Paul who wrote these words was a good example, he worked as a tent maker to support his ministry. Gifts were given to him also to support his work, but he never accepted a life of luxury. He chose a simple life of devotion to God, in imitation of Christ.
2 Corinthians 9:5,7 explains how true religion would view this matter.
It says: "Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
In my view, the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses do this. No collection plates are passed in their Kingdom Halls, no % of your income is expected. It's members simply give what they are able and whenever they are able, to support the printing and building work taking place in that organization. Their places of worship are comfortable but simple and built in a way that encourages learning accurate knowledge from God's Word.
