Piercings? Please read.?
i understand that for most families piercings aren't
exactly the holiest of holies.
However, I have been very good. I am very religious
myself and have talked to my parents about
getting a monroe piercing.
My mom said it was fine. My dad flipped out.
We've never had a fight like it or since it.
He said that (not exact words, but similar meaning)
that he and i would go to hell for it.
I felt very misunderstood. I just wanted a piercing.
I understand we must wear jewelry in moderation
but i don't wear rings, bracelets, necklaces, or even earrings.
It's been over a year now and i still want this piercing
and i want to bring it back up to my dad.
i would really appriciate some scripture or encouraging
words or helpful suggestions.
i have no idea how to bring it up or how to talk to him about
it anything would be appreciated. = ) thanks

aren't really insightful.
Couple of thoughts:
1. What's YOUR motivation? Why do you want to do this particular type of piercing? Try to be honest with yourself..."because I want to" isn't the real reason. Once you land on your real reason, ask yourself if it is a good reason. 
(For example, could it be "to fit in", "to be different", "to look better", "to piss off my Dad", "the guy I like said he likes them", etc. Figure out the real reason, and if it's a good one, you might be able to find an alternative. If you realize that maybe it's not a good one, then rethink your actions.)
2. If he honestly believes that your eternal salvation is tied to a particular action, then you probably won't talk him out of it. If he's the sort that is irrational, in spite of whatever Scripture you might bring up to prove otherwise, it won't matter. But, if he was just sorta "going off" and saying things to the extreme because he was angry, then you might have a chance, if you can show him your legitimate reason (see point 1).
3. Is there a middle ground? Is there something that he would think is OK that would sorta meet your need to express yourself with jewelry? Maybe do some research and find something you think he might actually like. There's a site called http://madetoglorify.com that sells jewelry that has Scriptural meaning behind it, but isn't too "overtly" Christian. Maybe he would allow something like that.
4. Try to remember that, actually, he really is expressing his love for you. You might not believe that, but his reasoning behind it is to try to protect you. It's what dad's do best for their little girls. He is either trying to protect you from what he thinks is a spiritually bad decision, or trying to protect you from other "reputational" risks. A piercing is permanent. They can close up, but it will leave a mark. Maybe he's worried that if you change your mind in a few years, you'll be stuck with a scar on your lip and he doesn't want his little girl to have that. Whether he's right or wrong, understanding that his motivation is probably one of concern for you may help alleviate some of your stress.
