Has anyone heard of serving the dinner meal before the wedding ceremony?
my fiance' and i want an evening wedding, i want the ceremony to take place around 6:30, when the sun starts to go down, but we know by doing so serving the meal (after photos) wouldn't be til around 8pm, which doesn't leave much time for the dances, throwing of the flowers, and enjoyment. we don't want to come off as cheap or rude, but my fiance' is not sure he's into the whole serving just cocktails or dessert thing. and i'm not sure i want to be seen before walking down the isle?
Personally, I wouldn't want to have dinner before the ceremony. I think it takes away some of that special element that comes when first seeing the bride as she walks down the aisle.
Maybe you could serve a lot of heavy appetizers. This way it's not a full sit down meal so it doesn't take up a lot of time - but people will have plenty to choose from and eat.
Just be sure to tell people somewhere on the invitation that you won't be serving a full meal. Just say something like, "Appetizer, cocktail and dessert reception to follow"
